Who Will Finish Where?!
This season has kicked off to another topsy turvy start with teams putting on amazing performances and causing upsets. Despite this, Chelsea will win the league this season hands down for me.
Chelsea look so good in all areas of the pitch. They’ve brought an assist and goal machine in the forms of Costa and Fabregas who are linking up beautifully week in week out. In addition to this their squad is insanely good and has so much depth it’s scary. Hazard, Schurrle, Willian, Matic and even Jon Obi Mikel are putting in excellent shifts and performing to great levels. What’s scary is that it’s still early in the season so this isn’t even their peak!
Chelsea will win the league for me by a good distance as well. The only thing that is next to impossible to work out is who is going to finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th!
Everyone would automatically say Manchester City to finish second but I’m not to sure. They are primarily focused on the Champions League this season and will undoubtedly put the Premier League second to this after winning it last season.
So who will finish second? Villa? They’re unbeaten this season and put in a great performance to beat last year’s runners up Liverpool at the weekend. Surely this can’t happen right? Villa do look good this season but the lack of quality in depth will inevitably see them slowly fall down the table. Expect them to remain in the top half though.
My tip for second has to be Manchester United after yesterday’s performance against QPR. Yes QPR were dreadful but United just looked incredible. Daley Blind looked like he’d played for United for years and Angel Di Maria was out of this world. Even the very inexperienced Tyler Blackett look very composed at centre back. Don’t forget Falcao will now start regularly upfront alongside Van Persie which is guaranteed at least 50 goals if you add Wayne Rooney to the mix.
Manchester City will finish third for me. A team which has so much quality right through it’s entire squad they have the depth to cope with Europe and the league. You will see star players such as Aguero rested before European games which I feel will come back to bite them on the backside however you know they will grind out key results against close rivals like they did against Arsenal at the weekend. The team they put out against Arsenal was considered a ‘B-Team’ which is ridiculous in itself but shows you why they will finish third.
Fourth place is almost reserved for Arsenal on a seasonally basis and this year is no different. Glimpses of title winning performances make you think yes this could be there year. If they’d seen out City for the ten minutes they had to on Saturday then I would’ve said they had a chance but not any more. A title winning team would’ve seen that out until the end but Arsenal panicked and looked nervy. If they get Welbeck scoring and if Ozil actually decides to turn up then maybe they might push for third.
Liverpool look set for fifth place for me. They looked lost without Sterling and Sturridge on Saturday. Let’s not take away the fact that Villa put in a blinding performance but Liverpool were stuck for ideas. When Sterling came on they did look better but they cannot rely on a 19 year old to get them a Champions League spot. These two will inevitably have to be rested before European games more times this season so I can really see them struggling to keep up the pace. Their Champions League group is a tricky one as well so it’s very unpredictable for Liverpool this season.
Sixth place is wide open. Tottenham, Everton, Swansea and Southampton could all finish here. Each team are capable of beating the top teams but will then inevitably lose to a lower ranked team. I’m going to go out on a limb and say Southampton will finish sixth as they looked excellent against Newcastle. Everton look good but the teams above them are so far ahead in terms of depth and quality I can only see them making seventh. Spurs eighth seems realistic for me as they struggle against the top teams i.e. 3-0 home loss to Liverpool and will throw away wins like they did against Sunderland at the weekend.
Top eight prediction:
- Manchester United
- Manchester City
