Moyes moves to Sociedad

David Moyes is the new manager of Real Sociedad. The Scotsman has resurrected his career in Spain after a torrid time at Manchester United, and the former Everton manager will be under intense pressure to regain his credentials after signing an 18-month deal.

It’s a welcome return to management for Moyes after he arguably walked into what was a poisoned chalice at Man United. A successful time at Everton will be clinged on for hope by the demanding Sociedad fans as they will hope that his time at United was not a true reflection on his ability as a manager.

It is thought that Moyes has always wanted to manage abroad, and I for one would like to see him do well, his tactics may not have been perfect at United, but I really think the players must take a lot of the blame too.

But he will have to deal with a similar fan group at San Sabastian, the Basque club is famous for its passionate and demanding group of fans, but they are referred to as the ‘Spanish Everton,’ which may give Moyes a warm feeling.

Whether or not the Sociedad fans will be happy with that comparison, they can be confident that their new manager can succeed, they are a provincial northern club with a priority in developing the youngsters at the club, something Moyes paid particular attention to during his time at Everton.

Sociedad are primarily a stable in club in terms of their league standings, though, Moyes must be aware of the fact that the club are also not shy when it comes to relieving managers of their duties.

Sociedad are currently fifteenth in the league and Moyes’ first game will be away to Deportivo La Coruna after the international break.
