Real Madrid got their 21st successive win in style as Gareth Bale scored and Ronaldo produced a rabona caught on the volley as they eased their way to victory on route to officially becoming the best side in world football.

Cruz Azul posed little threat to Real, despite missing a first half penalty, and the Mexican side were made to pay throughout.

Toni Kroos’ cross was headed in by defender Sergio Ramos to open the scoring, before striker Karim Benzema powered his shot home to double their lead.

Iker Casillas then saved a penalty from Gerardo Torrado after Ramos fouled Mariano Pavone shortly before the break, but Bale was on hand to put the result beyond doubt when he headed in Ronaldo’s cross just after half time.

Pablo Barrera’s shot cannoned off the post, but that and the penalty aside, they were outclassed by the European champions, and Real’s fourth came in the 72nd minute when Isco went on a jinking run before smashing a shot into the corner.

Despite not scoring, Ronaldo, though, had to have his share of the limelight as a video of him performing a rabona, caught sweetly on the volley went viral, despite his effort not going in.

Real will face the winner of San Lorenzo versus Auckland City FC.
