Ronaldo hat-trick breaks La Liga record

Another Ronaldo hat-trick continued Real Madrid’s unbeaten form tonight with a 3-0 win over Celta Vigo, making it their 18th consecutive win and Ronaldo becoming the player with most hat-tricks in La Liga history.

Real Madrid’s season so far has been going beyond expectations, as they continue to be unbeatable in the Spanish League. Before tonight game, Real had won 17 straight wins, which only has been done once before by rivals Barcelona under Frank Rijkaard in the 2005-06 season.

Los Blancos showed no sign of stopping their great run this week, as they cruised to a 5-0 win over Cornella in the Copa del Rey. Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema were all rested for that game and did Real, who started tonight two points clear of Barcelona and one point from defending champions Atletico Madrid, need their attacking force tonight in order to get further from their rivals on the top of the league.

Celta Vigo on the other hand have been struggling recently, last losing 2-1 to Las Palmas in the Cup, making it their third loss in a row.

Like Real Madrid, Celta expected their main players back from rest and injuries, and did Eduardo Berizzo have Nolito available for tonight’s game.

The game started with Real Madrid on the attack, with an early effort from Ronaldo in the ninth minute, as he headed a corner cross in middle of goal where Sergio Ramos failed to score on the rebound.

Ronaldo was just warming up, as he made an amazing bicycle kick from the centre of the box in the 18th minute, which flew just above the bar.

In the 34th minute, Ronaldo received a penalty after being fouled inside the box. The 29-year-old Portuguese International took the penalty himself and made no mistake from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way, making it 1-0 before half time.

In the first half, Celta Vigo were bystanders in the game, trying to prevent Real Madrid from scoring and having zero shots on target.

In the second half, Celta Vigo had their first and only real dangerous effort of the game in the 46th minute, when Nolito found Fabián Orellana in the centre of the box, whose right-footed hook was missed by an inch to the right post.

Celta Vigo started to play better, but it were Madrid who wanted the win more, as they knew they could break the La Liga record. The guy to do the job for Los Blancos, was again Ronaldo in the 65th minute, when he doubled their lead with a right footed bullet from outside the box, after receiving the ball by mistake as the ball had hit Celta Vigo’s Gustavo Cabral’s head.

However, Ronaldo was not finished. Nine minutes before time, Gareth Bale found Marcelo on the left whose low cross went straight pass Celta Vigo’s defenders and found an unmarked Ronaldo, who with an easy finish could score his 200th La Liga goal and give Real their 18th consecutive win.

This was Ronaldo’s 23rd hat-trick, making him the player with the most ever hat-tricks in La Liga history. With his 200th goal, he is now just 28 goals shy from breaking Raul’s 228 La Liga goals record.

Real Madrids win gave them another record in their books, and puts them level with Barcelona’s record of 18 wins. Real are now four points ahead of rivals Atletico Madrid and five ahead of Barcelona in the leage. Next week Carlo Ancelotti’s team will have the chance to extend their lead and breaking the record, as they will face Almeira away on Friday.

Celta Vigo’s loss on the other hand puts them in eighth position, and will they try to forget all about this match. They will have to work hard on their attack and defence for their next game, which will be against Malaga away on Saturday.
