Stuttgart vs. Bayern Munich (07/02/2015)
Kick Off: 14:30
Competition: The Bundesliga
Venue: Mercedes-Benz Arena

After the Bundesliga’s long winter break, you’d have been forgiven for thinking the normally formidable Bayern Munich would have been ready to sweep all before then as they did in the first half of the season, which they went through unbeaten and only conceded a poultry 4 goals. That prognosis went out the window last Friday night though, where second placed Wolfsburg, spearheaded by a rampant Kevin de Bruyne, tore Bayern’s backbone limb-from-limb, beating the Bavarians by an eventual 4 goals to 1. This may seem odd then that I’m tipping them to win this weekend, but this is Bayern Munich were talking about, and that result was a one off at the home of their nearest title challengers. This week sees them travel to lowly Stuttgart, who can’t by a goal at present and you feel would be satisfied just to keep the score down to something moderately respectable. Arjen Robben and co. should get their Bundesliga campaign back on track come tomorrow afternoon.

Aston Villa vs. Chelsea (07/02/2015)
Kick Off: 15:00
Competition: Barclays Premier League
Venue: Villa Park

Aston Villa are in desperate need of a result in the Premier League, they have set a club-record for the time taken since they last scored a league goal and are without a win in 8 games. I don’t feel that result will be coming this weekend however, when they host league leaders Chelsea. Despite being deprived of top-scorer Diego Costa and assist machine Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho still has a plethora of talent at his disposal with last weeks goalscorer Loïc Rémy and new signing Juan Cuadrado being able to fill in for both Costa and Fagregas respectively (in terms of team selection, not necessarily in terms of team structure, positioning or formation). Expect Chelsea to have a lot of the ball as Aston Villa attempt to punish on the break and nick a goal as they did in the same fixture last season. I wouldn’t be expecting a repeat of that this time around however, this is a different Chelsea side to that one, and this one knows how to win games. Expect Chelsea wide-man and playmaker Eden Hazard to shine.

Manchester City vs. Hull (07/02/2015)
Kick Off: 15:00
Competition: Barclays Premier League
Venue: The Etihad Stadium

This, on paper, seems one the most predictable of the weekends fixtures. Manchester City failed to score in their last home game in the league, where rivals Arsenal’s excellent defensive structure, dovetailed with the fact their starting line-up didn’t include a certain Yaya Touré, meant City failed to live up to the lofty heights of performance we are used to seeing from them at the Etihad. Expect that to change this time though, they haven’t failed to score in successive home matches for the last 80 home games in the league, and Sergio Agüero should be getting used to playing again by now after his recent injury problems. They host Hull, a team who have to turn things around swiftly if they are going to avoid relegation this season. This should be a comfortable win for Manchester City which maintains their five point deficit to the top of the league.

Middlesbrough vs. Charlton (07/02/2015)
Kick Off: 15:00
Competition: The Championship
Venue: Riverside Stadium

This game will see Middlesbrough attempt to keep pace with the Championships top two places, where they play host to Charlton. Buoyed by their recent FA Cup heroics which saw them beat Manchester City on their own patch, Middlesbrough should win this game comfortably. This is due to the fact they haven’t lost any of their last 11 home matches and have scored at least 2 goals in 9 of their 14 home matches this season, accompanied with the fact they play Charlton, who haven’t won any of the last 11 games in the league and recently conceded 5 away from home. Middlesbrough attacker Lee Tomlin will be their key man as they try to unpick a Charlton side who will likely go on the defensive from the get-go.

Villarreal vs. Granada (07/02/2015)
Kick Off: 17:00
Competition: La Liga BBVA
Venue: Estadio El Madrigal

With fellow fourth place La Liga rivals Sevilla and Valencia both away from home taking part in potential banana-skin fixtures this weekend, Villarreal will see this game as pivotal in gaining ground on their rivals, where they host relegation threatened Granada. Villarreal are a good side, they ran Barcelona all the way in their last league game at the Camp Nou and have gone 5 games since they last lost in the league, with he last 4 all being victories to nil. They may have lost centre-half Gabriel in the transfer market, but they do now have wide-man Joel Campbell to call upon along with top scorer Liciano Vietto, who should add to his 10 goals in the league so far this season against a side in Granada who have only kept 4 clean sheets in the league this far this season.

PSV vs. Utrecht (07/02/2015)
Kick Off: 19:45
Competition: The Eredivisie
Venue: Philips Stadion

An adequate simile to describe PSV in the league at home this season is they are like a bulldozer crushing anything laying before them, in other words they have won every home league fixture this season. This match day sees another eminently winnable home tie to add to that tally. They host mid-table Utrecht who haven’t won any of their last 4 matches and have only kept a solitary clean sheet away from home this season. A lot of emphasis this season has been on PSV star-man Memphis Depay who tops the scoring charts in the Eredivisie with 13 goals in 21 games to date, expect him to be PSV’s principle threat, bringing pace a flair to their attacking play. If I were PSV I would be bracing myself for summer interest from Europe’s big guns for Depay. PSV to win.
