Arsenal vs. Burnley (01/11/2014)
Kick Off: 15:00
Competition: English Premier League
Venue: The Emirates

This is a great game for Arsenal to have. After two wins on the spin in all competitions Gunners fans will all just be wanting the momentum and confidence gained from this regained form to be sustained for a prolonged period, this will happen if they continue to win games. Thats why they will like this fixture, as it is a home tie against the Premier League’s bottom club, winless Burnley. Last week Arsenal will be worried slightly as the only clear cut chances came from Sunderland defensive lapses. But you still have to put them away; and when you have a player like Alexis Sanchez who has now put away 5 league goals in 9 games, and chance created in front of goal and you would back him to tuck it away. Arsenal also welcome with great anticipation the return of Theo Walcott, who after 9 months out will return to the match day sward, although manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he will not start the match as he looks to regain full match fitness, so expect a cameo from the bench at some point from him. Burnley on the other hand are doing what many expected when they pulled off an unlikely promotion, they are struggling to score goals and get wins under their belt, but their main goal scorer Danny Ings got his first Premier League goal last weekend in the defeat to Everton and that can only be a sign of better thing to come for the Burnley faithful. I can’t see him getting many chances this weekend though, and Arsenal should win this comfortably.

Chelsea vs. Queens Park Rangers (01/11/2014)
Kick Off: 15:00
Competition: English Premier League
Venue: Stamford Bridge

On paper this is the game that is most probable with regards to the result in the Premier League. With Manchester City struggling to maintain the form that won them the title last season, and other title contenders Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool all trying to find some consistency, that leaves Chelsea as the outstanding favourites for the league title. This is in no small part thanks to the form of Chelsea’s two marquee signing from the summer, first striker Diego Costa, who has made a record start to the season in terms of goalscoring, and midfielder Cesc Fabregas. Diego Costa has made the headlines and rightly so, he has adapted to the league and scored goals at a rate not many other accomplished names in football have managed in the past. Despite this though the signing of the summer has to be Fabregas, the former Arsenal captain has slotted straight into a central midfield position and has flourished, he already has a goal and a league high 8 assists to his name in 9 games. It was against teams that sat back that Chelsea found hard to beat last season, but now they have Fabregas who can unlock those tightly packed banks of defence. Chelsea should win this game whatever happens, but if they score early the score could be anything.

Granada vs. Real Madrid (01/11/2014)
Kick Off: 15:00
Competition: Liga BBVA
Venue: Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes

No other team in Europe is in the form of Real Madrid right now. They are tearing through all before them and are averaging 3.67 goals per game in La Liga. Last weekend they faced bitter rivals Barcelona and won 3-1, a results that puts them now within 1 point of the Catalans and makes up for their stuttering start to the season, and ended Barcelona’s run of having not conceded a single league goal all season. The world’s most expensive player Gareth Bale is for this fixture injured, so Isco, who is in great form himself at the moment will fill in for him and play with James Rodriguez just in behind strike of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo; with the latter fresh from his recents awards for last season where he received Best Player, Best Forward of La Liga award and Best Goal award on Monday night. He looks set to win more awards this season also, as he already has an astonishing 16 La Liga goals in just 9 games, and he is already 7 clear of second place Neymar in the race for the Pichichi. He should get more this weekend as well, as Madrid are away to a Granada side who in their last 5 games have drawn 1 and lost 4; conceding 11 in the process and scoring just 4.

Athletico Madrid vs. Cordoba (01/11/2014)
Kick Off: 17:00
Competition: Liga BBVA
Venue: Vincente Calderon

This fixture sees Spanish league holders Athletico Madrid face newly promoted Cordoba. The loss of Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois would be enough to unsettle any side at least int eh short term and thats probably the reason Athletico have made a solid if unspectacular start to this season, but they are getting better week on week. New signings Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann have now had time to settle and the former should start added to his rather modest current league total of 3 on a more regular basis, starting this match day. They face a Cordoba side who I mentioned in an earlier article are just happy to be at Spain’s top table, anything more would be a bonus, a win at the Calderon would be the stuff of fairytales.  It doesn’t look like a fairytale with a happy ending though, as Athletico have won their last 4 home games in all competitions scoring 12 and conceding none, where as Cordoba haven’t won any of their last 5. I don’t see either of these trends ending this weekend and all signed point to that of a Athletico win.

Ajax vs. Dordrecht (01/11/2014)
Kick Off: 17:30
Competition: Eredivisie
Venue: Amsterdam Arena

Ajax will feel games like this are must wins if they are to have a realistic chance of retaining their league title. They currently sit second and are 4 points of the pace of leader PSV who also have a very eminently winnable match this weekend. That makes this game at home to lowly Dordrecht even more imperative that they get 3 points from it. There is no reason why they shouldn’t either, Dordrecht have lost all of their last 5 fixtures in all competitions and sit firmly in the relegations zone second from bottom having only 5 points from 10 games. Ajax on the other hand have 20 points and are unbeaten in 4 at home with 2 wins and 2 draws, and those draws came from decent sides in PSG and Zwolle. Ajax also have Kolbeinn Sigthorsson in decent form, the striker already has 4 to his name and will look to add to that against Ajax’s struggling opponents.

Red Bull Salzburg vs. Admira (01/11/2014)
Kick Off: 17:30
Competition: Tipico Bundesliga
Venue: Red Bull Arena

The game comes from the Austrian top flight. Where Austria’s biggest side in recent times and 8 time league champions Salzburg will look to add another victory against Admira, a side third bottom in the domestic standings. Salzburg have scored 45 league goals this season in 13 games, 21 more than anyone else, and Spanish striker Jonathan Soriano is in red hot form for them having scored 14 in 13 league games thus far, with the former Barcelona man also recently being appointed the new captain of the side. Salzburg have also beaten Admira 5 times at the Red Bull Arena in the last 2 seasons, and in those games have only conceded twice and have scored 16. All signs point to a comfortable win for Salzburg in their quest to retain their league crown.

PSV Eindhoven vs. Den Haag (01/11/2014)
Kick Off: 19:45
Competition: Eredivisie
Venue: Philips Stadion

The final game this weekend sees Dutch league leaders PSV welcome Den Haag to the Philips Stadion. It’s been a great season thus far for PSV, they sit pretty at the top with 24 points from 10 games and are 4 clear of their closest rivals for the league title, Ajax. This is due to them for now at least possessing a good balance between attack and defence, they have the second best defence in the league having only conceded 8, and the best attack where they have already scored 30. The star man for PSV will be Memphis Depay, who is gaining interest from some of Europe’s elite due to his performances this season and he is PSV’s joint top scorer this season with 6 goals. PSV have scored 17 goals in their last 5 games in all competitions; and opponents Den Haag recently conceded 6 in an away game against opponents inferior to that in PSV in terms of league status. PSV also like playing against Den Haag, they have beaten them 5 times in a row home and away scoring 23 in those 5 fixtures. A PSV win here.
