Arsenal and Tottenham thwarted in John Stones chase as Everton defender pens new contract
John Stones has agreed a new deal with Everton, dealing a hammer blow to Arsenal and Tottenham’s pursuit of the defender.
The 20-year-old rose to prominence last season after breaking into the Toffees’ side under Roberto Martinez and became a fully fledged England international, which led to the north London rivals leading the chase for his signature.
But today Stones ended speculation over his future by becoming the latest player to commit his future to Goodison Park with a new five-year contract.
He said ‘I am over the moon. It’s just been such a great last season and to get pen to paper on a new deal is a dream come true.
‘The last 12 months have been so enjoyable thanks to the faith that the manager has shown in me and all the players. What we achieved was unbelievable. It was a very memorable season and hopefully there’s more to come.’
