TUESDAY TALENT SPOTTER: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one of the rising stars in Germany at the moment, and is undoubtedly the brightest young Danish talent out there. The Bayern Munich midfielder has already made 14 appearances for Bayern, and at just 19 years of age he has five caps for Denmark and one goal.
The midfielder, born in Copenhagen, has been compared to Zinedine Zidane; Hojbjerg’s tall frame in the midfield, along with elegance on the ball has got his manager Pep Guardiola raving about him.
He is without doubt a huge talent, he was named ‘Danish talent of the year in 2013,’ and with first team opportunities on offer at Bayern, the youngster can flourish with the right mind-set, and he is not short on confidence.
Hojbjerg told tipsbladet.dk in an interview before Denmark’s upcoming EURO 2016 qualifier that he was not afraid of the competition at Bayern: “As a 19-year-old, I’m not on par with Xabi Alonso. I would be brain dead to go out and say it.
“But I think I will have some things in the future he may not have, and he has some things now that I do not have.”
Though, Hojbjerg went on to say: “Alonso is a competitor, but I’m not afraid of him. I am not afraid of Schweinsteiger and Thiago.
“These are some talented teammates. We have respect for each other, and they also have respect for me.”
Beginning his career at BK Skjold in 2003, Hojberg remained there until 2007 in which he joined FC Copenhagen, before joining Brondby in 2009.
In 2012, he made the switch to Bayern and has never looked back. At just 19 years of age, he already has a vast array of honours to his name which include winning the Champions League, Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
On a more trivial note, the Dane has also been recommended by a friend of GAFF TV, a Football Manager recommendation that is. Director of the game, Miles Jacobson has given gamers a huge hint that he could be one of the brightest youngsters on the game as Jacobson told in an interview of how Hojbjerg was his preferred youngster in FM 15, the latest game of the franchise.
But Jacobson also added that managers on the game need a lot of luck when trying to sign the player, because Guardiola and Bayern rate him just as highly.
